Upgrade your summer navigation skills.
• Essential map reading skills
• Navigation equipment - including tips on the use of GPS technology
• Using your compass in poor visibility
• Identifying and relocating your position using slope aspect technique
• Planning a winter mountain day, top tips and handy hints
• Avalanche knowledge – know how to select the terrain and route and avoid known danger zones
• Learn how to deal with poor conditions and get out of bad weather situations.
Introduction to Snowshoeing
A fun day looking at winter travel.
• Snowshoe equipment - how it works and how to use it
• Terrain management safe and efficient travel
• What to take to stay safe and to have an enjoyable day
• Avalanche basics
• Basics of navigation using maps, altimeters, compass and GPS
• Route choice, how to get the perfect trip
• Mountain weather
• The winter environment including tracks in the snow
For All Courses, Ratio: 1-6 Cost: £60.00 per person, 10% discount if 4 or more book a course.
Book two people, £50 each. Book three £45 each. Book four people £40 each
All instructors are qualified and experienced mountain leaders. All these courses are great for winter beginners.

Snow shoes and GPS are supplied when needed.
You will need suitable footwear. A kit list will be provided.
Clients are expected to have own axes and crampons. Hire of these can be arranged at a small charge if needed.
Advice can be given if you need to purchase equipment.
Discount will be available at Craigdon Mountain Sports.

Mountain Navigation |
This course is suitable for those with little navigation and experience. We aim to include mountain days on the trip so a spirit of adventure and good general level of fitness are the main prerequisites.

NNAS Bronze Navigation Course |
On completion of the course, you will be able to plan and follow simple walks in the countryside mainly on paths and tracks.

NNAS Silver Navigation Course |
On completion of this award participants will be able to plan and follow walks in the countryside away from paths and tracks, using accurate compass work to navigate across pathless terrain.

Hill Skills & Mountain Days |
Four days of mountain skills including navigation and an overnight expedition.
|

Bushcraft, Expedition, and Woodland Skills |
During the two days you will be introduced to;
Shelters including, Tarps, Tipis and Hammocks. Cooking options including Kelly Kettles, and wood stoves. Also knots, tools, water treatment, toilets, leave no trace and access.
